## Proton Drive FAQ

Frequently asked questions

### Is Proton Drive safer than Google Drive?

Proton Drive offers more security and privacy than Google Drive because it uses end-to-end encryption by default. Google does not offer true end-to-end encryption, meaning it can potentially [access your data](/content/blog/how-to-de-google/index.html) for purposes including targeted advertising or compliance with legal or governmental requests. Proton’s end-to-end encryption also uses a zero-knowledge architecture which means even in the event of a breach, your data is protected from unauthorized access.

### What is a better alternative to Google Drive?

Proton Drive is a better alternative to Google Drive for those who prioritize control and security over their personal and business data. Unlike Google Drive, Proton Drive uses end-to-end encryption to keep your content private and ensure that your files are stored securely and accessible only by you and the people you choose.

### Why do I need private cloud storage?

Using a private cloud means you retain your right to privacy – your data won’t be shared with third parties or sold for profit, as can happen with many popular cloud services including Google Drive, Dropbox, and Microsoft OneDrive.

With private cloud storage, like Proton Drive, you maintain full ownership and control over your data, ensuring that it remains safe, secure, and confidential.
